I leave it on the flash most of the time and have never worried about it falling off, it has a good snug fit on the SB-600. Over 15 feet there is a little light fall-off that needs to be compensated. For close in, under 15 feet or so this is an excellent little diffuser. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to improve their flash photographs. At close range it gets rid of the harsh bluish light from the flash through diffusion and a slight color shift through the plastic. To me it seems to drop the flash color from 5600 kelvin to around 4900-5000 kelvin, not a big deal and it make portraiture work easier. It's an inexpensive addition to my bag of cheap photo lighting tricks. The four stars is because of the slight light shift, flashing through the diffuser.
I have had this for about 8 months now and it works great. I am very satisfied with mine and always keep it on my flash, it seldom comes off. It works great with kids too as it is not as harsh and does not distract them as often as the flash with it off.
Test shots I have taken show a slight difference, it softens the flash better then the build in flash reducing flash reflections in people's eyes, teeth, and jewelry. It does fit snug and does have a gap of about an inch or 2.5cm from the end of the flash and the end of the cap. It is cheap and you can lower the flash's diffuser of leave it up with the cap in place.
I have never had it fall off the flash as others have reported. It won't make a large difference in outdoor fill flash areas, or situations needing longer range. I used the cap in the last Shanghai Auto Show and was pleased with the results as it illuminated the cars but did not produce noticeable reflections from paint, minimal from chrome and glass.I use this with the Nikon 55~200mm VR lens and tripod for portraits.
I carry the flash with it on most of the time and the only issue I have is that the flash's carrying case flap does not close fully with the cap on. For the price it is the best deal in my camera bag.
The diffuser works as described. The only complaint I have is that it is very snug and very little of the rim fits over the flash head. I've had it pop off several times when it's bumped. Does the job and it's cheap.
I have seen other photographers use this little piece of plastic. The price was good, just to check it out,but the shipping is ridiculous. I could not see a difference in my photos at all
This flash diffuser would be great, I'm sure, if it actually fit the Nikon SB-600. However, it doesn't, so it's pretty worthless. It slips off very easily, even when I thought I had a tight seal. Don't buy this.
